An eclectic collection of work by a Stroud artist is set to be sold at auction next week.
Work by Andrew Wood, whose work features in numerous private collections including those of the late Ian Dury, Dan Aykroyd, Ringo Starr and Sir Elton John, includes sculpture, paintings and sketches and will go under the hammer at Wotton Auction Rooms in Wotton-under-Edge on Thursday, April 9th.
Andrew Wood is an award-winning local artist, synonymous with the vibrant art scene and community of Stroud, well known for ‘The Word’ installation on London Road, featuring words formed from large cut sections of painted plywood displayed in the style of a Hollywood sign, providing a thought-provoking pause for passers-by and motorists arriving in the town. He was also the founder of Prema arts centre in Uley in 1981.
Auctioneer Joseph Trinder said: “This a truly eclectic collection of work spanning the artist’s career and we are honoured to offer this for sale.
“Such is the scale of the collection this is just part one, with more to come in subsequent sales.”
Estimates for the artworks range from £40-£80 for smaller pieces, up to £800-£1,200 for Mea Culpa, a large sculpture.
The work will go under the hammer at Wotton Auction Rooms in their three-day sale on Thursday, April 9th.
