A beloved fixture of the town’s literary community, R & R Books has announced it will close its Nelson Street bookshop in the new year.
Owners Ron Cree and Ruth Pyecroft, who recently celebrated 23 years operating from Nelson Street — and a further eight years previously in Middle Street — have served Stroud’s readers for over three decades. Their shop has long been recognised as a cornerstone of the town’s independent retail scene.

Ron confirmed the upcoming closure, stating: “Our lease is ending next year and it’s now time for a change, so the shop will be closing on January 17th. We hope that many of the wonderful customers we’ve met over the years will pop in and say hello — lots of discounts available!”

Although the physical shop will close, R & R Books will continue to maintain a presence in the town. Ron and Ruth will keep their weekly stall at the Shambles Indoor Market every Friday and Saturday, allowing loyal customers to continue browsing their eclectic and much-loved selection of books.
