The wait is over, Forest Green have found the winning feeling as Matty Stevens’ goal after the break gave his side victory on the road for the first time in 378 days – handing David Horseman his first win as boss.

And the Rovers boss lauded the fans who made the long trip to Yorkshire, he told BBC Radio Gloucestershire’s Billy Hunt: “Massive thank you to the supporters today, they’ve been brilliant in the three games I’ve been in and that’s dedicated to them.

“We will keep trying progress a few bumps along the way, but stick with us because I think we can produce a good team here.”

Horseman also praised the New Lawn top brass: “I’m really pleased for Dale Vince, Allan Steele, Asif Rehmanwala, who have put a lot of faith in us and hopefully this is the start of many more to come.”

Despite the victory, the new Rovers boss remained measured: “One win, we don’t get too excited – one loss, we don’t get too down – loads to do still and we are nowhere near were we need to be, but we are making small steps. It was a really important win, but not necessarily a good performance.”
