Forest Green Rovers supporters travelling to Birmingham for today’s National League opener against Solihull Moors were met with an unexpected scene as anti-immigration protesters gathered outside the Ramada Hotel in Solihull.
The protest, reportedly organised by Tommy Robinson, began at 12pm on Saturday and drew a visible police presence.
More than 400 Forest Green fans are making the trip to support the team in what marks new manager Robbie Savage’s first competitive match in charge.
One travelling supporter told Stroud Times: “We’re travelling in numbers today, so it was a bit of a shock to see the amount of police at this protest – I hope it remains peaceful.”
The National League fixture is expected to kick off as scheduled, though local authorities remain on alert to ensure public safety in the area.
