Forest Green Rovers have confirmed the signing of defender Abraham Kanu on a season-long loan from Reading.
The 20-year-old centre-back penned his first professional contract with Reading in July 2024 after progressing through the club’s academy. During the 2024/25 season, Kanu featured 10 times in League One for the Royals alongside ex-FGR loanee Charlie Savage. Kanu made six appearances in cup competitions, showcasing his growing potential at senior level.
Prior to breaking into the first team, Kanu was a regular in the U18 Premier League, amassing 34 appearances and establishing himself as a key figure in Reading’s youth setup.
Having come through the ranks at Reading, Kanu’s development has been closely watched by Forest Green boss Robbie Savage, who expressed his enthusiasm about the signing: “He’s a fantastic player and Mark (Bowen) knows a lot about him from his time at Reading.”

“He’s big, physical, can play a number of positions and is a player who comes with good pedigree. He’s got great pace with good technical ability and should add a lot to the team.”
