Hundreds of classic cars, trucks, motorcycles and bicycles descended on St Rose’s School in Stroud on Sunday for the annual Wheel Nuts Car Show.
Elaine Fernandez, Chair of the Fundraising Committee for St Rose’s, told Stroud Times: “We have 400 classic cars on site with some classic motorbikes and bicycles – we’re very busy and there are a lot of people here. We think we’ll raise between £7,000-£8,000 – this is our largest fundraising event of the year.”
The school helps young people with profound disabilities, and today’s event was the 20th running, though with a couple of years missed during the Covid-19 pandemic. Visitors could hitch a lift to the show from the car park at Archway School on one of six vintage double-decker buses.
“Besides the cars we’ve got stalls, food and drink, and there is an amazing amount of people here spending their money, so huge thanks to everyone who has supported us, and also to 1st Call Rentals for their sponsorship,” added Elaine.
Money raised from the show will go towards a project to join two bungalows in the school grounds, St Martin’s, which are home to young adult students up to the age of 25. The buildings will be refurbished, and new bedrooms and bathrooms built, and the buildings linked – at an estimated cost of £2.2million.
