Nailsworth Silver Band enjoyed performing to a wonderful crowd at Box Open Gardens.
The band were once again invited to attend the event, which takes place every three years.
The gardens open to the public were beautiful and very popular with the many visitors who attended. On the village green were the Nailsworth Silver Band who attracted a large and appreciative crowd throughout their performances.
The band performed three sets of music and included memorable pieces such as I Just Can’t Wait To Be King from the Lion King, an arrangement of The Beatles’s Ticket To Ride, Queen classic I Want To Break Free, the theme from Chicken Run and many more. Trombone soloist Steve Fidler performed Wind Beneath My Wings from the film Beaches as part of the concert.
In addition to the music, members of the band also put together a successful plant stall, comprised of flowers, fruit and vegetable plants. The stall raised a fantastic £400 which will help to fund two band causes – the new Academy Band and costs involved towards autumn’s National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.
The brand new Academy Band is up and running and has lots of vacancies for any brass or percussion players. The band is aimed at newer players, people returning to playing or players ‘between bands’! Rehearsals take place on Thursday evenings 19:30 – 21:00 at Nailsworth Silver Band, Brewery House, Brewery Lane, GL6 0JQ. For more information contact band secretary Debbie McDougall at secretary@nailsworth.band or come along to a rehearsal.
The band’s next concert will be the Summer Concert at St Mary’s Church, North Woodchester on Saturday 12th July starting at 19:00.
