Hundreds Run the Rainbow for hospice

MOST READ

More than 450 people took part in Longfield Hospice’s vibrant Run the Rainbow event at Frampton Court Estate, enjoying a day filled with colour, laughter and community spirit while supporting free hospice care across Gloucestershire.

Bathed in glorious sunshine, participants of all ages embraced the fun as they dodged clouds of colourful paint and foam to complete the 5k challenge.

The event got off to an energetic start with a lively warm-up led by Pennie McKenzie, joined by Longfield’s mascot, Cuthbert the Cow, before runners set off on the colourful course. After crossing the finish line, participants continued the celebrations with live music from D’Artagnan, rounding off a memorable day for everyone involved.

Many runners chose to use the event to raise vital funds for Longfield Hospice’s free hospice care services, with others taking part were running in memory of loved ones. Among them was Roger Atkinson, who completed the run alongside three generations of his family, making the day a particularly meaningful occasion.

Roger said: “Longfield carers looked after my wife who sadly passed away in 2022. Without Longfield, I’m sure her death wouldn’t have been as comfortable as it was. They were very friendly, very caring. Little things like this are just a small thank you to Longfield Hospice. The day was all about positivity, it was a brilliant atmosphere.”

Longfield Hospice thanked the team of volunteers whose enthusiasm and support helped make the event such a success, including volunteers from local Rotary clubs and individuals. Thanks also to Stroud Camera Club for capturing colourful moments throughout the day.

Ewa Pawlowska for Longfield Hospice said: “As you can see by the photographs, Run the Rainbow was a wonderful celebration of community, remembrance and fun. It was fantastic to see so many people throw themselves into the spirit of the event and support free hospice care in Gloucestershire. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took part, volunteered, donated or helped make the day so special.”

In total, the event raised over £11,000 towards the hospice’s free care and support services, including hospice care in the home and bereavement counselling.
