Stroud Camera Club kicked off 2024 in style with its first competition of the new year. Some great images were on display in both the Prints and Digitally Projected sections.

Taking the top awards with a maximum 20 points each in the Prints section were René Cason with Arctic Tern Fishing, Mick West with Devil’s Bridge, Venice and Ian Peters’ Surprised Soggy Squirrel. The judge selected his favourite 20 point images as follows: Mick West in 3rd, Ian Peters in 2nd and René Cason in 1st.

Very close behind with 19 points each were Roger Matthews with Window To The Soul, René Cason with Little Owl and Derrick Whitmore with Gatesgarth Beck, Buttermere.

The Digitally Projected section was equally close with Nigel Bowsher’s Poolhay, Avening and Richard Selwood’s Puppy Proposal both scoring 19 points and just pipped by Annie Blick’s House Across The River.

Mark Halling’s Scream Portrait and Malcolm Marner’s Black Tailed Godwits, both scored the maximum 20 points. The judge’s choice here was Malcolm’s Godwits.

It was a very close contest, which was very ably judged by Jonathan Bolgar from Bristol who gave some very welcome and insightful critique of the all the images. It is this external critique and advice which makes camera club competitions so valuable to members.

Stroud Camera Club always welcomes new members and all the images entered in their competitions can be seen at https://stroudcameraclub.co.uk/results
