Work to breathe new life into a much-loved play area is set to start on Monday, January 22.
Stratford Park’s main play area will benefit from a new toddler multi play unit, junior tower, trio climber, and a climbing unit. The transformation is expected to take up to one month. This means the play area will be closed during this time.
So far Acacia Drive, Archway Gardens, Wharfdale Way, Mason Road & Cambridge Avenue play areas have been revamped by contractor Kompan with £300,000 of Contain Outbreak Management Fund (COMF) for local authorities in England to help reduce the spread of coronavirus and support local public health. In addition, Stroud District Council is contributing extra investment to improve Stratford Park’s play area.
“Generations of children have enjoyed playing here but the facility is in need of improvement,” said Councillor Beki Aldam, Chair of SDC’s Community Services. “When it is complete, it will serve generations to come.”
One of the council’s three main priorities is Community Resilience and Wellbeing, and play areas are vital for the health and wellbeing of young children and their families. All the play areas were redesigned in consultation with the communities which the council serves.
Committee Deputy Chair Trevor Hall added: “We understand how much children value this area and we expect them to be really happy with the improvements. Our contractor is completing the works across all six sites as quickly as possible, and we ask for a little bit of patience while the improvements are made – it will be worth the wait.”
