The Lake, a premier scuba diving destination in Cromhall, has announced the arrival of their jaw-dropping new underwater attraction for scuba divers: a colossal fibreglass shark.
This impressive addition promises to enhance the diving experience, offering divers a thrilling and unique encounter beneath the surface. Measuring just over 24 feet in length and weighing approximately three tonnes, the meticulously crafted shark replica will be strategically placed within The Lake’s depths to provide an exciting point of interest for divers of all skill levels.

Bearing the name Bruce, a nod to the character from Disney Pixar’s ‘Finding Nemo,’ the sculpture’s detailed construction is intended to evoke a sense of wonder, elevating standard dives to the level of memorable expeditions.
“We are incredibly excited to introduce this remarkable new feature to our diving community,” said Johnathan Davies, Managing Director at South West Maritime Academy which operates the water activities business, The Lake.
“The addition of Bruce not only adds an element of excitement but also provides a fantastic focal point for underwater photography and videography. We believe it will significantly enhance the overall diving experience at The Lake.”

Situated within the former Cromhall Quarry, The Lake is a popular destination for scuba divers. Its rich underwater environment includes an aeroplane, helicopter, catamaran, cars, and various sunken vessels. Additionally, it is a favoured location for open-water swimming and paddleboarding.
The team at The Lake are currently evaluating several locations within the water body to determine the optimal site for the shark, considering factors such as visibility, accessibility, and the existing underwater attractions.

Paul Breen, Outdoor Activities Manager at The Lake said:
“A crucial aspect of the planning process involves developing support structures to ensure the shark’s stability and longevity in the underwater environment. The weight and size of the replica require careful consideration to prevent shifting or damage over time.”
To track the development of this exciting project, divers, photographers, and underwater enthusiasts are invited to follow The Lake on social media, @thelakeuk. The Lake’s website offers scuba diving sessions for divers wishing to be among the first to explore this new underwater attraction.
