Doctor Simon Opher, Stroud’s Labour Party candidate for the next general election, has slammed the planned return of controversial speaker Katie Hopkins.
The far-right political commentator, and former businesswoman is due to speak for a second time at The Star Inn, Whiteshill next week.
Dr Opher said: “Katie Hopkins is not welcome here. We all respect the right to speak our minds, but with that comes a responsibility not to spread hatred.
“This woman has been banned from twitter for her racist tweets, is horribly anti-Islamic in her sentiments and holds abhorrent views on people who are less well off than she is. She should not be given a stage in Stroud, or anywhere else for that matter, to spread her hate filled personal rants.
“I repeat, she is not welcome here.”
