Hartpury 1 Shortwood 4 – GFA Trophy
Shortwood came through triumphant after a fairly bland first half, writes Harry Ash.
With Hartpury understandably tiring and Wood introducing fresh legs the tide turned and Wood ran out comfortable winners. Keegan Bowes came off the bench to shine and rightly picked up the man of the match award.
Earlier Wood took the lead after only 11 minutes. Price hit a delightful Crossfield ball to Gardner who beat a defender before crossing low to Gayner who turned the ball home.
After 52 minutes Hartpury levelled. Clark, looking suspiciously offside, ran on to shoot past Wright into the corner. Bowes and Marshfield came on and Wood took control. Bowes especially looking dangerous and when laid the ball square to Martin he shot home low from the edge of the area, Wood were in complete control and it was no surprise when Byrnes found Gardner with the perfect through ball and he ran on before shooting high into the net after 75 minutes.
The goal of the game came just 4 minutes later. A good Wood move released Owen Scrivens and his perfect cross was met with a bullet header from Bowes to wrap up the win.
Wood will now play Slimbridge at Meadowbank in the next round.
