Baroness Primarolo officially opened the Labour Party’s new shop in Dursley on Saturday morning, joined by Parliamentary candidate, Dr Simon Opher, along with other district council election candidates and supporters.

The former Labour Member of Parliament for Bristol South cut the ribbon at the shop in Silver Street, which has been donated to the party and will be open Monday to Saturday, 10am – 2pm, until the end of the next General Election.

“It’s been donated by a supporter and her only proviso is that we beat the Tories and get a Labour MP,” said Dr Opher, who will contest the Stroud seat currently held by Conservative MP, Siobhan Baillie.

“The shop will be run by volunteers and people are always welcome to pop inside and have a chat. It’s right on the main road and it’s a really nice shop with a lovely view as well, and it’s a great place where we can base our campaign in the Dursley area as well,” he added.

Baroness Primarolo told Stroud Times: “Making sure that Labour is visible and active in the local community is crucial to both the local elections and the General Election. All these people live around here, and it gives them a base to work from.”
