A popular hairdresser is hanging up her scissors after 42 years in the industry.
Alison Birch’s final cut at AJ’s unisex salon will see her business close on Saturday, May 18th.
Alison cut her hairdressing teeth at Peter Hickman’s in Stroud before opening her own salon in Cainscross Road in 2002.
A staple of the hairdressing community, Alison is looking forward to putting down her scissors next month, she explained: “I can’t believe after 42 years I will no longer have a pair of scissors in my hand, and hope my husband is ready to listen to me talking all day.”
Alison paid a heartfelt tribute to her loyal customers: “We want to thank each client that has supported us over the past 22 years, which has been the most wonderful experience a hairdresser could wish for.”
Community spirit has also been one of the many standout factors for Alison: “AJ’s has not only been a fabulous hairdressers, but the hub of the community, we have shared laughs, jokes and a few tears along the way and we have become a family over the years.”
Alison heaped praise on her staff, both past and present: “I would love to say a massive thank you to Claire Young, who has been by my side from virtually the day we opened, and the past 22 years would not of been possible without her, also Becky Hewer, who joined us later, but we wish she had found us earlier, because she is one special hairdresser, and previous staff that have worked for us over the years, who have made AJ’s the success it is today.”
Alison is holding a farewell drink and a slice of cake on the final day, with clients invited to pop in and say goodbye from 1pm-2pm.
