A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in Gloucester this morning (Wednesday 28 May).

Emergency services were called at around 7.40am following reports a number of people had been stabbed at an address on Bedford Street.

Three men were taken to hospital to be treated for injuries but sadly, despite the best efforts of first responders, one of the men died at around midday.

While formal identification has not yet taken place, we believe we know who the man is and his family are being made aware. Our thoughts remain with them at this extremely difficult time.

A murder investigation has now been launched by our Major Crime Investigation Team and a forensic post mortem examination will take place in due course.

Two men remain in hospital however their injuries are not deemed to be life-threatening.

The suspect, a man aged in his 30s, was arrested by armed officers at around 8.10am on Chequer’s Road and taken to hospital for treatment. He was subsequently discharged and transferred to police custody.

Assistant Chief Constable Arman Mathieson said: “We understand how alarming and distressing this incident has been for members of our community. We would like to reassure everyone that the incident was contained within the address and there is no ongoing threat to the wider public.

“We have dedicated resources carrying out enquiries into this incident and for reassurance there will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days.

“Members of our Neighbourhood Policing Team will be conducting high visibility patrols throughout Gloucester so if you have any concerns, please speak to them.”

Police scenes remain in place in Gloucester while enquiries are ongoing and investigating officers are appealing for anyone who has any information to come forward.
