New long table will bring Brimscombe community together

A new long table has appeared in Brimscombe designed to encourage people to meet and picnic together in Charlea Community Gardens.

Brimscombe is well known for the original Long Table, a social enterprise to provide food, which is part of the Grace Network based at Brimscombe Mill.

The 5.5 metre long table top is amazingly made from one piece of wood which has been recovered from a diseased Himalayan Cedar tree near Marshfield, Bath. It took eight volunteers to carry the table top into place.

Craftsman Pete Ditchfield made the table and benches to fit naturally into the environment and create a landmark in the community gardens for people to enjoy.

Graham Russell, a Trustee of Charlea Community Gardens said: “We could have bought a number of smaller picnic tables but we wanted to encourage people to sit and meet each other. Pete Ditchfield has created a work of art – an example of the power of a community coming together to make things happen in their neighbourhood.”
