New update issued on Nailsworth gas leak

A road closure is set continue into the weekend, due to a gas leak.

Emergency services attended the scene on George Street following reports of a “strong smell of gas” from 8pm last night, Monday.

In an update this evening, Andrew Wilding, Wales & West Utilities Operations Manager for Stroud, told Stroud Times: “We are continuing to work in the George Road area of Nailsworth to repair damage to a gas pipe caused last night by third-party contractors resurfacing the road.

“Our engineers worked as safely and as quickly as possible last night to isolate and stop the leak, making it safe. Today we have been working to make a full repair on the pipe. However, this is a complex job, and the nature of the damage has meant we will need to bring in additional teams to support our work. From our assessment of the repair required, we anticipate that our work will continue into the weekend.

“In agreement with Gloucestershire County Council, and in order to keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe, we will keep the Council’s road closure along George Street in place while we work.

“We would like to thank everyone for their patience while we work to make this essential repair.”
