The team at Stroud opticians are raising their glasses to Jennifer Aguedor who has completed her pre-registration year and is now a fully qualified optician.
Jennifer, who’s originally from Nigeria where she completed her optometry degree, started her year of on-the-job training at Specsavers in King Street in February 2022. Working under a supervisor, optical director, Rizwaan Choonara, Jennifer completed a series of both practical assessments and assignments before qualifying in April.
“It’s been a tough year as it also saw me and my family move to the UK but everyone has been so supportive which made things much easier,’ says Jennifer. ‘Riz’s guidance has been invaluable too, always happy to help and answer any questions I had. I’m delighted to have completed my year of training and can’t wait to get stuck in to put what I’ve learnt to the test.
“I really enjoy helping people and solving their problems so that’s been a highlight so far and something I will continue to take great pride in doing alongside the rest of the team. I’m also hoping to complete some further qualifications to support my career development. It’s been an exciting experience so far and I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead of working as an optometrist in Stroud.”
“The whole team is really proud of Jennifer,” said Riz. “We sponsored her training year so that she could come over to the UK and it’s brilliant to see all her hard work pay off.”
