Picture from the past: who do you recognise in this Cashes Green football team?

With the sad news that Cashes Green Football Club have folded, we were sent this picture of the team back in the halcyon days of the 1990s.

We recognise Cashes legend Clive Eckersall (back row, far right) and Barry Blizzard (front row, first left).

Stroud Times reader and former league officer Don Fletcher contacted us to say the match official for this game was Brian Norman from Lightpill.

He said: “In 1996/7 the league had 69 member clubs and more than 100 teams in seven divisions. Cashes Green played in Division Two and the reserves in Division Seven.”

Can you name any of the other mystery faces from the team of 1996?

Last week the Stroud League club announced the end of the road after struggling to find enough players to continue. The club posted a statement on Twitter: “It is with deep regret that we have decided to fold as a club after 74 years of existence. Unfortunately, our recent recruitment drive was unsuccessful but we would like to thank those who helped to share these messages.”
