A memorial match to celebrate the life of Brimscombe & Thrupp stalwart Clive Baker will take place next month.
Clive’s son Phil — a former Brimscombe manager and player — will lead a Phil Baker XI against a Sam Prior Select, with kick-off at 12pm on Sunday, December 7 at The Meadow, Brimscombe. Sam, also a former Brimscombe manager, joins Phil in organising the tribute. All proceeds will go to Longfield Hospice.
Phil said: “Between Sam and I, we spanned two decades of amazing success at BTFC that saw huge progression on and off the pitch. Bringing so many of those players together for one game is going to be an amazing day — one Dad would truly love.
“It’s a testament to him that when Sam and I came up with this plan, it took less than 10 minutes to get 40-plus players wanting to be involved. He was a remarkable person who helped so many enjoy their football, and all of them would consider their time at BTFC one of their footballing highlights — that was the culture Dad created here. It will be emotional, but a day he would be so proud of.”
