A policing operation will be taking place in Gloucester tomorrow, Sunday to facilitate a planned protest.

There will be an increased police presence in the city centre in the afternoon to enable lawful, peaceful protest and to help keep everyone safe.

It is understood that this will take place in the areas of Eastgate Street and Westgate Street throughout the afternoon.

Assistant Chief Constable Donna Lawton said: “We have spoken with individuals from the groups who are due to attend on Sunday afternoon and we thank them for their cooperation so far.

“People have a right to protest in a peaceful manner, and our priority is keeping people safe. We also want to ensure that those in the area who are going about their daily lives are able to do so with minimal disruption.

“Those involved in organising the event have said they want the protest to remain peaceful. We have been working with partner organisations in the lead up and I would like to reassure those living, working or visiting the area that we are aware and are prepared for the planned protest.

“We will have police officers in the area and we would not hesitate in taking action against anyone who commits any unlawful act against either people or property.”

Anyone who may have information about planned protests or disorder is encouraged to contact Gloucestershire Police by reporting online at https://www.gloucestershire.police.uk/ro/report/ or calling 101.
