Brimscombe boss Sam Prior, former Shortwood United manager Alex Sykes, and ex-Forest Green and Newport defender Darren Jones are thought to be the front runners to replace Steve Cleal at Cinderford Town.

Brimscombe boss Prior is mounting a promotion challenge, with the Lilywhites currently four points off the top of the Hellenic Premier Division table. Meanwhile, Sykes, a former Forest Green winger, boasts a raft of managerial experience, leading Shortwood United to the FA Cup first round and spending a spell as Bishop’s Cleeve’s boss. Jones, who played for Forest Green in two spells is currently managing Cwmbran Town.

Cinderford suffered a 5-2 home defeat against Winchester City on Saturday – leaving the Foresters 14th in the table.

A statement on the Cinderford Town website from chairman Stuart Tait read: “It is with regret that tonight that I have accepted the resignation of our Manager  Steve Cleal.

“May I take this opportunity of thanking Steve for his integrity and professionalism over the past 14 months, he will always remain a welcomed friend at the Causeway.

“In the interim, Will Morford has agreed to take the reins, no further statements will made at this time.”
