Randwick’s third team travelled to Kingswood on Saturday for a goalless Stroud League Division 5 (S) match against the hosts’ Reserve team.
Daniel Flynn, Head of Football at Randwick FC, said: “I thought they were a brilliant team, really solid. We tried to break them down and we almost got two goals. That’s a little bit rust from our player just coming back from injury. So next time, next match, we expect to put that in the back of the net from him.

“We are predominantly a young team, the majority of these lads were playing for the under 16s last season. They’ve come up through the ranks. We’ve been building through the season; we’ve been sort of nullifying threats. We played Cam’s third team last week, they’re top of the league, and I thought we did really well against them. We’re improving week on week now.
“The stuff that we’re coaching, the lads, they’re really picking it up and they’re taking it in, they’re now taking it into the game. And it really started to show sort of, you know, in terms of working the overload and we did that really successfully for four or five stints of the match. It’s really starting to pay dividends now.”
Kingswood assistant manager, Bailey Hewer told Stroud Times: “Kingswood came into the game missing a few key players, making this a more difficult weekend. Kingswood started the game frantically and eventually calmed down, the best of the chances falling to Matt Blackham, before putting it over the bar from close range.
“Their keeper pulled off some fantastic saves, notably tipping a long-range effort from Bailey Hewer onto the crossbar as well as diving low to save efforts from Lloyd Brogden and Matt. Randwick also had a couple of very good chances, notably hitting the post following a chip attempt and some fantastic defensive work from Scott Cook and Giles Stocker.
“The second half was more of the same, with some golden chances for Kingswood being missed, with the best one being a header from Lucas Cann that went just wide of the post. Kingswood came off feeling disappointed as this is a game we needed to win to keep the pressure on the teams above us, but a clean sheet being a great positive.”
