Rare opportunity to buy historic woodland

There is an incredibly rare opportunity to buy “much cherished” woodland in Stroud.

A community group are inviting people to co-own woodland in Slade Wood in Summer Street.

Ben Spencer, Chair of Stroud Woodland Co-op said: “By buying £600 or £1,200 worth of shares you can bring this wood into community ownership and be part of its future.

“The current owners need to sell the wood soon. They are keen to sell to a community group but there is a risk that they will put it on the open market if we can’t raise the funds and then Slade Wood could be lost as a community resource and wildlife refuge. So now is the time to buy shares or make a donation – we are aiming to raise £66,000 by the summer solstice on June 21.

“As a co-owner of Slade Wood you would become a member of Stroud Woodland Co-op, who already own and manage another community wood in Stroud, just across the Slad Valley.”

The group are holding two drop-in gatherings in Slade Wood on Sunday, May 18, 7pm and Thursday, May 22, 7pm. Click the link HERE for meeting location.
