Road resurfacing sparks fears of traffic chaos

A busy road will face closures for resurfacing this week.

The Westward Road section between between Orchard Road and Chapel Lane in Ebley is now scheduled to be resurfaced between Tuesday, February 11 and Monday, February 24.

There will be road closures at this stretch of the road on weekdays between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

One resident said: “We find it completely unacceptable that this will take 14 days and traffic is going to be a nightmare elsewhere, especially the Ebley Bypass.”

A Gloucestershire County Council spokesperson said: “As part of our investment of over £100 million in the county’s roads, we are resurfacing Westward Road in Ebley from Tuesday, February 11 until Monday, February 24.

“It was originally scheduled for last summer but was postponed due to the snap general election and the required access to Stroud District Council offices.

“This work will greatly improve the road surface so all road users can enjoy smoother and safer journeys.

“It will take place over 10 days, excluding weekends, from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

“There will be a road closure in place during the works for the safety of the workforce and all road users and we would like to thank residents in advance for their patience and cooperation.

“Access will be maintained for pedestrians and emergency vehicles throughout the closure and an official diversion route will be signposted.”
