Residents across Gloucestershire are being warned they may see or smell smoke today due to a significant fire in South Wales.
Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service says prevailing winds are carrying smoke across the county.
Group Manager Richard Jackson-Lockyer said: “We are aware that some residents across Gloucestershire are reporting seeing and smelling smoke.
“This is likely to be linked to a significant fire in South Wales, with prevailing winds carrying smoke across the county.”
Residents who notice particularly heavy smoke in their area are advised to minimise the opening of windows and doors as a precaution.
Forecasters expect wind conditions to change later this afternoon, which should help improve the situation.
With conditions currently very dry, firefighters are also urging residents to remain vigilant and take extra care to help prevent fires.
Anyone who sees or suspects a fire should call 999 and ask for the fire and rescue service.
