A Beacon to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day in King’s Stanley has been built by an engineering company in Stonehouse.
King’s Stanley Parish Council contacted Ryeford Engineering who agreed to manufacture and donate the beacon for tonight’s ceremony.
Ryeford Engineering is run by Nick Rieger Senior and his son Nick Jr.

“We were approached by Gareth Parker at the King’s Stanley Parish Council to help make and donate a beacon for VE Day,” Nick Jr told Stroud Times.
“For such a special occasion, Ryeford Engineering spent some time designing a custom beacon with special features to represent VE Day.”
The beacon will be lit outside King’s Stanley Sports Club at 9.30pm this evening before this a reading of the official tribute at the war memorial in the village at 9.20pm.
More than a thousand beacons and several hundred “lamp lights of peace” will be lit to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
The event celebrates Victory in Europe – when the Second World War came to an end in Europe.
Commemorations started on the May bank holiday and run through until Thursday 8 May, which is VE Day itself – with other events also taking place at the weekend.
