It was a morning of excitement and pride at Stroud High School as students collected their GCSE results – and they had every reason to celebrate.
This year’s results set a new benchmark for the school on Beards Lane, with 78% of all grades awarded at 7–9, more than half at 8–9, and an exceptional 30% at grade 9. These figures represent the highest levels of performance since the introduction of the reformed GCSEs.

Achievement was consistent across the curriculum, with over half of the 160 students securing a full set of grades at 7–9 – a truly remarkable accomplishment.
Headteacher Mark McShane said: “I’m absolutely thrilled for every single student this morning. GCSEs are such a big challenge for young people, and the achievement of performing so strongly across all subjects can sometimes be overlooked. Our students have worked incredibly hard and have been brilliantly supported by our whole team of staff. I couldn’t be prouder of everyone involved – not just for what they’ve achieved academically, but also for the way they’ve created such a fantastic community and positive environment here at Stroud High.”
