A street in Nailsworth town centre that has been closed for more than a month, reopened this morning, Wednesday.
Following a month-long “nightmare” town road closure, traffic was welcomed back through George Street from 6am this morning, giving traders a much-needed boost after footfall and sales plummeted to a staggering 80 per cent after a gas main was hit during resurfacing work.

Nailsworth Computer Shop owner Paddy Coyle told Stroud Times: “This is absolutely amazing news and great for the whole town and to see smiles back on people’s faces. Now the road is open again, let’s get people back and make the town great again.”

A Gloucestershire County Council spokesperson said: “There will also be a short closure on Wednesday evening while lining works are carried out and the road will then be fully open. We would like to thank residents and traders again for their patience and understanding during these works.”
