Trading Standards warning as Stroud shop reopens after court-ordered shutdown

A shop in Stroud which was closed down following investigations into the sale of illegal tobacco and vapes has now reopened.

The Green Shop, based on Stroud High Street, was issued with a two-month closure order in July 2025 after Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court heard a case brought by Solace, a partnership between Gloucestershire Constabulary and six local authorities across the county, supported by Trading Standards.

The closure order followed a series of inspections and test purchase operations carried out by Trading Standards since November 2024. Evidence gathered during these operations highlighted concerns about the sale of illegal products from the premises.

A spokesperson for Solace said: “This action sends a clear message that the sale of illegal tobacco and vapes will not be tolerated in our communities. Working closely with Trading Standards and the police, we will continue to take firm action against businesses that put public health at risk and undermine legitimate trade.”

The Green Shop has now reopened following the completion of the court-imposed closure period. Trading Standards officers have confirmed that they will continue to monitor the premises to ensure compliance with the law.

Members of the public are encouraged to report concerns about the sale of illegal tobacco, cigarettes, or vapes by contacting Trading Standards or Crimestoppers anonymously.
