Home-Start Stroud and Gloucester is delighted to announce that Tweedy the clown has become patron of the charity.

Tweedy lives in Stroud and is best known for his role in Giffords Circus. He brings joy to families up and down the country both on and off the stage.

Tweedy said: “I’m honoured to be asked to be a patron of such an important charity.  Home-Start’s motto is childhood can’t wait. I agree! Somebody needs to look out for the children. I love that they are making a real difference to people’s lives.”

Ri Ferrier, Director of Home-Start Stroud and Gloucester added: “It is very exciting to have Tweedy as our patron. We hope that with his help we can raise awareness of the vital work we do to support young families in the crucial early years, encouraging more wonderful people to volunteer with us.”

Home-Start Stroud and Gloucester has been supporting local families with children under 5 years of age for 22 years.  They believe passionately in early intervention and want to see a society in which every parent has the support they need to give their children the best possible start in life.  Home-Start helps parents to grow in confidence, strengthen their relationships with their children and widen their links with the local community.  They do this through one-to-one support at home by trained volunteers, ante and post-natal groups, a perinatal mental health peer support programme and a Dad Matters project to specifically support dads to have the best relationships possible with their children.

If you’d like to be a champion for young families and help to ensure children get the best start in life, the next training course starts on 1st February.  As a volunteer for Home-Start Stroud & Gloucester you’ll be a lifeline for a family, helping them to get back on their feet and develop the skills they need to cope.  You’ll also have ample opportunity to play and make the early years period an enjoyable one for the whole family!
