Forest Green bound Robbie Savage has stepped down from his role at Macclesfield.
Documents filed at Companies House show Savage resigned yesterday, Friday, June 27 from his role as a director at the Silkmen – a post that the BBC 606 phone-in host held since October 2020.
Savage won promotion to the National League North in his first season as a head coach, at the age of 50, but is expected to be announced Forest Green’s new boss at the New Lawn on Tuesday following the departure of Steve Cotterill.
Forest Green director of football Mark Bowen is a former Wales team-mate who was also Mark Hughes’ assistant when Savage joined Birmingham and Blackburn. The pair were spotted by Stroud Times on Tuesday as they headed to a meeting with Forest Green chairman Dale Vince.
Meanwhile ,Wayne Rooney has turned down an offer to manage Macclesfield, according to the PA news agency. The non-league club had made an approach to the former Manchester United and England star with Savage close to taking over at Forest Green.
