In May of this year, 14 year-old Maidenhill pupil Daisy Mayo was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML).
This came as a complete shock to all family and friends. She is currently undergoing intensive treatment in Bristol Children’s Hospital and is midway through her second block of four chemotherapy treatments which involves 6-8 weeks stay in hospital each time.
Daisy’s dad Craig said: “Daisy suggested taking the opportunity to raise money for charity.
“We have since started a fundraising project called #TeamDaisy. Daisy asked that The Little Princess Trust to be the charity to benefit this event; they have been a great support to her and to us as parents.
“The Little Princess Trust provides free real hair wigs to children and young people, up to 24 years, who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.
“The charity provided a fantastic wig for Daisy during her first stay in hospital.
“On Saturday, September 9th we will take on ‘Brave the Shave’, which will be an evening of head shaving and body waxing at Painswick Rugby Club from 5pm.
“All volunteers will be asked to raise money through sponsorship and all proceeds will go to The Little Princess Trust. Everyone is welcome, and we can’t have enough brave volunteers to brave the shave.
“The club will also be showing England’s rugby world cup opener against Argentina at 8pm.”
