Wales & West Utilities will shortly begin work to upgrade more than 1,700 metres of gas pipes in Minchinhampton to ensure a safe and reliable gas supply for homes and businesses.
The project is scheduled to start on 5 January and, subject to progress, is expected to be completed by the end of May. The upgrade will help keep people warm for decades to come and ensure the gas network is ready to transport greener gases in the future.
Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Gloucestershire County Council to plan the works. A range of traffic management measures will be introduced as the project progresses, including a road closure on Dr Brown’s Road from 12 January to 20 February.
Mick Gallavin, who is managing the project for Wales & West Utilities, said: “We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area and that the gas network is fit for the future.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in daily life – from heating homes to cooking meals and having hot baths. This work is vital to keep the gas flowing today and prepare the network for greener energy in the years ahead.”
