Important Tricorn House update

MOST READ

Stroud District Council has issued an update on the future of Tricorn House, the former Government Department of Health and Social Security building that has stood empty since 1996.

The much-criticised building, constructed in the early 1970s, has recently been refurbished by developers Viladnik Holdings Ltd. The redevelopment has created 44 flats along with 34 parking spaces.

A Stroud District Council spokesperson said: “The flats in Tricorn House have been ready for occupation since October last year.

“The owner continues to be responsible for the building, and decisions on its use rest ultimately with them.

“The Government has made it clear that it does not consider the building suitable to accommodate people seeking asylum.

“We continue to represent the community’s concerns and push for the building to be brought back into use, preferably to meet the local need for accommodating homeless families and individuals.

“Each flat has been banded by the Valuation Office Agency, and Council Tax is being billed based on the property’s current empty status.
