Stroud will come alive with colour, music, and cultural heritage on Saturday, May 16, as the town hosts Stroud Stands with Ukraine: Vyshyvanka Day Celebration—a vibrant festival honouring Ukrainian identity, resilience, and community solidarity.
Organised in partnership with Stroud Town Council and Stroud Stands with Ukraine, the event marks an international celebration of Vyshyvanka Day, which recognises the traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirt as a powerful symbol of national pride and cultural heritage.
The day’s programme will begin at 11:45am outside St. Laurence Church with a colourful parade featuring participants dressed in traditional Ukrainian embroidered clothing. The procession will carry a large Ukrainian flag through the town, creating a striking visual display of unity and support.
From 12:30pm to 4:00pm, St. Laurence Church will host a cultural concert featuring a rich programme of live Ukrainian music and performance. Highlights include a performance by Ukrainian singer Oksana Karaziia, traditional Bandura music, Ukrainian children’s dance performances with audience participation, and joint English-Ukrainian choir performances.

Alongside the performances, visitors will be able to take part in interactive cultural workshops, explore traditional embroidery exhibitions, and experience Ukrainian cuisine as part of a broader showcase of living traditions.
The event will bring together local leaders, Ukrainian families, and hundreds of residents from across the community in a shared demonstration of solidarity with Ukraine. Organisers emphasise that the celebration is both a cultural showcase and a meaningful act of support for those affected by the ongoing war.
Funds raised during the event will go towards humanitarian aid and relief efforts supporting communities in Ukraine.
