Police respond to large gathering on Rodborough Common

Police responded to a gathering of up to 300 young people on Rodborough Common on Friday evening.

The Special Constabulary joined Stroud Neighbourhood Policing Team for a weekend of intensified patrols targeting anti-social behaviour across the district.

As part of the operation, officers responded on Friday evening to reports of a gathering involving up to 300 young people on Rodborough Common.

Special Constables and neighbourhood officers attended the scene, where they engaged with those present and, where appropriate, confiscated alcohol to help reduce the risk of disorder and keep those attending safe.

Although the majority of those present engaged positively with officers, the event unfortunately resulted in grazing cattle being unnecessarily disturbed and a significant amount of litter being left across the Common.

Officers assisted with clearing the area following the gathering and would like to thank the members of the public who returned the following day to help remove litter and restore the Common. Their support and community spirit are greatly appreciated.

High-visibility patrols will continue across Stroud District throughout the summer as officers work to prevent anti-social behaviour and keep our towns, villages and rural communities safe.
