The Happy Cinnamon Artisan Bakery and coffee shop in Market Street will open for the final time this Friday and Saturday.
The independent bakery said it had made every effort to keep the Nailsworth shop going, but quieter trading in recent months, combined with the challenges of running the location, had ultimately made the decision unavoidable after opening more than two years ago.
“We really did try to keep Nailsworth going, but things have been very quiet here lately and, alongside that, running this shop has at times become far more difficult than it should have been,” said the Happy Cinnamon team, who also run a bakery and coffee shop in Cheltenham.
“We’ve dealt with plenty of demands, complaints and expectations along the way, and ultimately the numbers simply no longer made sense for us to keep pushing a location that wasn’t working.”
However, the business said its final message was primarily one of thanks to the customers who had supported the shop.
“To our amazing regulars, the people who came in week after week, supported a small independent business, recommended us, chatted to us at the counter and genuinely wanted to see us do well — thank you,” the team said.
“We will miss you more than you know.”
With its characteristic sense of humour, the team also had a message for those who were less enthusiastic about the business.
“And to those who always seemed to be looking for the next thing to complain about… we probably won’t miss you quite as much.”
Despite the closure, Happy Cinnamon said it would continue to look for opportunities to return to the area.
“We’ll absolutely keep our eyes open for other opportunities in the area, so hopefully this isn’t goodbye forever — just see you soon.”
For now, customers will have one final opportunity to visit the Nailsworth shop, with pastries, loaves and cinnamon buns available this Friday and Saturday.
“Thank you, Nailsworth — it’s been a journey.”
