Boosting cycling in Stroud: extra funding secured for 50 more free cycle stands

Cycling in Stroud is set to thrive as Life Cycle, a Bristol-based cycling charity, announces additional funding to deliver 50 more free, secure cycle stands in partnership with Stroud District Council.

This new funding builds on the success of Life Cycle’s Take a Stand® scheme, which has already installed 100 stands across the area.

The extra funding will allow Life Cycle to continue expanding cycling infrastructure in Stroud, providing much-needed facilities to small businesses and community organisations.

This initiative promotes sustainable travel, reducing barriers to cycling and fostering healthier, more connected communities.

The Take a Stand® scheme launched earlier this year, offering local organisations up to five free ‘Sheffield’ stands, delivered and installed by Life Cycle, at no cost to the recipients.

With overwhelming demand, Life Cycle has secured additional funding to meet the need for secure cycle parking in the Stroud area.

“Cycling has a profound social and environmental impact. By providing free cycle parking, we’re supporting organisations that want to make sustainable travel accessible to everyone,” said Bernadette Thomson, Take a Stand® Coordinator. “Thanks to this extra funding, we can help even more businesses and groups contribute to a greener, healthier Stroud.”

Free cycle stands ease costs for organisations looking to improve amenities for cyclists. More importantly, they encourage local residents to cycle for everyday trips—saving money on fuel, reducing carbon emissions, and promoting physical and mental well-being.

The scheme is open to small businesses, such as cafes, shops, and surgeries, as well as community organisations, including charities and places of worship. With only 50 stands remaining, interested organisations are encouraged to apply quickly.

Organisations can apply for up to five free cycle stands through Life Cycle’s website. Applications are open until all stands are allocated, so early action is encouraged.
