One small step for Qigong… One GIANT leap for everyone!
The Chris Handbury School of Qigong, based in Stonehouse, has been officially recognised as one of the Uk’s top education and training providers.
This prestigious honour comes from The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sports and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) and their newly developed ‘Training Academy,’ which houses the most esteemed training and education providers in the UK. CIMPSA is the Uk’s leading representative for health and fitness professionals.
Christopher’s School of Qigong was recently invited to join the Academy after receiving the highest award for their exceptional training provisions and supportive learner development in 2024.
Christopher said: “This now firmly presents Qigong www.chi-fit.uk alongside other more recognised health and fitness methods in the industry and hopefully, it will help others to find this great art of wellness as means of longevity and prevention of illness and injury.”

Qigong (pronounced ‘Chee Gong’) is often regarded as the mother of Tai Chi, a popular health exercise, and the sister to traditional yogic health practices. It is one of the oldest known forms of health cultivation, with historical evidence dating back over five thousand years.
Modern Qigong practices have become a valuable means of maintaining general physical and mental health. The methods include therapeutic movement to aid physical wellness, static posture to build energy and strength, and restorative meditation to ease the effects of emotional stress.
Christopher, a qualified expert in Acupuncture and Clinical Qigong, has been supporting patients and students for 20 years at his clinic based in Stonehouse. Through his partnership with CIMSPA for the past 3 years, he has been developing a new generation of Instructors to help spread the benefits of this ancient health exercise.
“I began working with CIMSPA as they had just developed a written standard for Qigong and Tai Chi in order to reduce the number of un-regulated courses or poorly trained instructors and raise the level of skill within the industry. These standards were created in partnership with the Tai Chi and Qigong Union for Great Britain and The British Council for Chinese Martial Arts, the two most prominent organisations in the sector. It takes a lot of work and skill to be able to meet these standards. This means our instructors adhere to principles and ethics when providing services for the public.”
