Controlled explosion carried out on suspected WW2 shell

A controlled explosion has been carried out on a suspected World War Two shell discovered in Leonard Stanley this afternoon, Sunday.

Police were called to Bath Road at around 3.15pm and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit were informed.

The ammunition round was discovered in the garden of a property.

Several nearby properties were evacuated as a safety precaution and residents have now been able to return to their homes.

A police spokesperson said: “We would like to thank the public for their co-operation during what may have been a concerning time.”
