Dale Vince and Forest Green lead beach clean-up in Weston-super-Mare

Dale Vince OBE, founder of the Green Britain Foundation (GBF) and eco-pioneer behind Forest Green Rovers FC, will lead a major beach clean-up in Weston-Super-Mare on Wednesday, September 17.

The initiative builds on Vince’s long-standing commitment to tackling climate change and protecting the natural world. Under his leadership, GBF has already removed 2.25 tonnes of rubbish from UK beaches this year alone—including over 1.1 tonnes from Coney Beach in Wales, cleared in five early-morning cleans after firework displays.

Now, attention turns to Weston-Super-Mare, where high volumes of summer litter have left the coastline struggling. Volunteers will join Vince and the GBF team to clear disposable packaging, BBQ equipment and other debris, helping to restore a much-loved beach for residents, visitors, and wildlife.

The event forms part of GBF’s flagship Fish Net Zero programme, which tackles ghost fishing gear and marine debris across UK waters. Partners from Forest Green Rovers FC will also take part, showing how sport and sustainability can come together for positive change.

Dale Vince OBE said: Protecting our oceans starts with small actions, but they can make a big difference. This beach clean in Weston-Super-Mare shows how we can all play a part in environmental protection and sustainability. It’s inspiring to see our partners and colleagues come together—not just to clear waste, but to restore pride, protect wildlife, and prove that collective action works.”
