Evergreen England captain John Evans led from the front, top scoring on 78 and taking the player of the match award as his side trumped Australia by seven wickets to win the inaugural Over 70s World Cup at Wormsley.
The Frocester chairman and former Forest Green, Shortwood boss put on a man-of-the-match performance to see England home.
England’s only defeat in the group stages of this seven-nation competition was against their Silver Ashes rivals.
But the host nation took revenge after both qualified for the final, saving their best for last to lift the trophy with ten balls to spare.
Australia, who won the toss, rattled up 208-8, Gloucestershire’s John Turton taking 1-43 from nine.
And Evans, along with opener Duncan Elder (74), then played the key roles in completing a famous victory with the England squad further featuring Gloucestershire’s Nigel Belletty.
