Finlay Byrnes made his milestone 100th Shortwood United appearance in the club’s 2-2 draw at Newent Town.
One of their own, Nailsworth-based Byrnes decided to remain loyal to the Meadowbank outfit after a raft of departures at the end of last season.
Byrnes, who works for Coles Electrical is certainly the bright spark in Shortwood’s midfield engine room, he said: “It’s a great feeling to reach 100 games for the Wood.
“Shortwood is a great club to be a part of over the last few seasons and hopefully this season we can really push on and repay the support we’ve had from everyone at the club.
“Obviously, it’s hard when there’s a big change around with the squad and management, but the lads that have come in have been first class and Gilly (Dan Gillespie), Moodz (Andrew Moody) and Matt (Tunley) have come in and shown already how they want us to be playing throughout this season. I feel like we have a great chance of really challenging for the top spots.”
