Forest Green boss Robbie Savage adds former Celtic, Coventry City goalkeeper Jonathan Gould to backroom staff

Former Celtic goalkeeper Jonathan Gould has been appointed Forest Green Rovers’ new goalkeeping coach and set-piece specialist.

The 57-year-old replaces Dan Watson, who departed the club at the end of the season.

Gould brings a wealth of experience to the role, having enjoyed a distinguished playing career with clubs including Coventry City, Bradford City and Preston North End. He made 157 appearances for Celtic, winning three Scottish league titles, three Scottish League Cups and a Scottish Cup during his time in Glasgow.

His coaching career has been equally extensive. Gould worked under Tony Pulis at both West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough, while also holding coaching positions at Preston North End, Stoke City and with the New Zealand national team.

Most recently, Gould spent the past two years as goalkeeping coach at Auckland FC, helping the club secure both the Premier Plate and Grand Final titles. Seeking a return to the UK and a fresh challenge, he left New Zealand earlier this year.

Football runs in the Gould family. His father, Bobby Gould, famously guided Wimbledon to their shock victory over Liverpool in the 1988 FA Cup Final. Bobby also managed Bristol Rovers, Coventry City, West Bromwich Albion, Cardiff City and Cheltenham Town during a long managerial career.

His son is goalkeeper Matt Gould, who recently has signed a new 12-month player-coach deal with Yeovil Town.
