Forest Green face fierce fight for promotion, warns Don Goodman

Former Premier League striker Don Goodman believes Forest Green Rovers face a difficult challenge in their bid to win the National League title this season.

Speaking to https://www.casinohawks.com/ about the current standings, Goodman highlighted the strength of the competition at the top.

“I see a few reasons why they might not be champions, and that’s every single one of their opponents at the top of the league,” Goodman said.

“It looks like a proper slugfest between five teams to me. Rochdale are on the same points as them, with three games in hand, having just won three in a row. Carlisle, same points, were beaten by Woking in the last game, but they’d won seven and drawn two of the previous nine. York City have won six league games in a row, they’re the form team and sit one point behind with a game in hand. Boreham Wood are two points behind with a game in hand, having won four of the last five.

“So, although Robbie Savage is doing a great job, he’s going to realise that it’s a tough ask for anybody – including him-to say they’re going to win the league at this stage.

“It’s a brilliant league. Does it deserve an extra promotion slot? Absolutely. If that were the case this season, I’d be more confident in suggesting Forest Green will be back in the EFL next season. But no, there’s a lot of football to be played between now and then, and a lot of good teams fighting for that one prize of automatic promotion.”
