Forest Green swoop for Spanish midfielder Gorrin

Forest Green boss Troy Deeney has made his first foray into the January transfer window.

Spanish midfielder Alex Rodriguez Gorrin joins from Oxford United.

He joined Oxford in 2019 and helped the club to two successive League One play-off campaigns in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons.

The 30-year-old left the club in the summer but rejoined in October on a short-term deal. During his career, the Spaniard has had spells in New Zealand, Romania and Scotland.

Upon joining Rovers, Gorrin said: “It’s good to be here and I’m looking forward to getting started.

“I will bring experience, energy and leadership to the group. Hopefully I can contribute and help the club achieve the goal of pushing up the table.”

Head Coach, Troy Deeney, added: “Alex will bring us real quality, professionalism and know-how. We’ve had him in on trial this season – and even just in that week, you could see what he could add to the group.

“He’s a physical presence, but also really good technically. He can play one or two touch and he’s got a great range of passing too.

“He will also add serious value to Harvey Bunker and Alfie Bendle. To have Alex as a mentor to two exciting young players will be a great thing.”
