Former Forest Green Rovers captain Anthony Barry has been named new England manager Thomas Tuchel’s assistant.
Barry, 38, joined Dave Hockaday’s Rovers in May 2013 on a three-year deal following his release by Fleetwood Town.
The Liverpool-born assistant is currently part of the set-up in Portugal, having followed Roberto Martinez after a spell with Belgium.
Barry coaching career started at Wigan Athletic, Chelsea, Republic of Ireland, Belgium, Portugal and Bayern Munich, where he worked under Tuchel’s management as a set piece specialist coach.
Barry said: “For any Englishman in football, working with the national team is the pinnacle and I didn’t hesitate when Thomas asked me to come and join him again. I know what a great place St. George’s Park is and how much of an advantage it gives our England teams, and the support it gives to coaches.
“This squad is very talented and have done so much to bring the country together, I look forward to meeting and working with them on this exciting project.”
