A Stroud League football club will be staging a memorial match next weekend in memory of a team player who died tragically during a match.
Mike ‘Raj’ Rodman, aged 37, died on the pitch following cardiac arrest on January 26th, 2013, whilst playing for Kingswood AFC. Next Saturday, January 31st, the club will hold a fundraising match (2pm kick-off) between Kingswood AFC and Kingswood Legends, raising funds for CRY, Cardiac Risk in the Young heart screening.
Sam Bartrop, Secretary of Kingswood AFC, told Stroud Times: “On Saturday, we will be marking 13 years since the passing of Mike ‘Raj’ Rodman. In his memory, and to raise funds for the BHF, we will be hosting a memorial match, where our current Kingswood squad will take on a Kingswood Legends team organised by Adam Eldridge & Benji Vale, at the Kings’ Lawn.
“Following the game, we will then be returning to the Village Inn, Kingswood, to raise a few drinks in his memory. We will also be running a raffle on the night with all proceeds going to the Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
“We would love everybody who knew or played with Raj, to come down and watch the game, and come back to the Village Inn with us and celebrate him. Put it in your diaries, we would love to see you all there!”
The club has also set up a gofundme page.
